Edith Lucy Madsen, 98, life-long resident of South Haven, passed away Wednesday, January 29, 2020 at the Graceway at Countryside Nursing Home in South Haven after a brief illness. She was born February 5, 1921 to Lloyd and Lucy (Heckl) Carter in South Haven. Edith graduated from South Haven High School with the Class of 1938. She married Christian Madsen on January 5, 1963 and shared 33 years of marriage before his passing in 1996. Edith worked various jobs in South Haven at Michigan Fruit Canners, Bohn Aluminum, and DeGrandchamp’s Blueberry Plantation. Edith was a member of St. Basil Catholic Church and did volunteer work for Bingo and the Altar Rosary Society. She enjoyed gardening, yoga, and was fan of baseball, especially the Chicago White Sox. Edith loved animals and nature. She enjoyed Lake Michigan and the beach, especially during her frequent walks along the shoreline. She was a devoted wife and mother. She was proud to call South Haven home and often referred to it as her favorite place on earth.
She is preceded in death along with her husband and parents by a sister – Muriel Carter.
Edith is survived by her children – Christian (Danielle Havenstein) Madsen of Grand Rapids and Patricia (Richard) of South Haven; granddaughter – Missy (Jay Pletz) Willis; great grandson – Christopher Pletz.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, February 4, 2020 at the Filbrandt Family Funeral Home in South Haven. Edith will be laid to rest at Lakeview Cemetery in South Haven.
