Rose Loretta Gordon, 98, of South Haven, passed away Monday, June 4, 2018 at the Woodland Terrace Assisted Living Facility in Bridgeman. She was born March 20, 1920 to Ambrose and Rosalia (Koffer) Konrath in Chicago, Illinois. The family moved to South Haven in September 1920 when Rose was six months old. After schooling in Covert, Rose worked at the Overton Factory in South Haven for several years. In 1941, Rose moved back to Chicago where she worked at Spiegel Mail Order on various jobs such as procedure writer and quality control supervisor for 41 years until her retirement in 1983. Rose married James “Flash” Gordon January 20, 1973 in Chicago. They shared 9 years of marriage before his passing in 1982. Following her retirement, Rose returned to South Haven in 1983 where she became a member of the St. Basil Catholic Church. She enjoyed over 25 years spending winters in Kissimmee, Florida.
She was preceded in death along with her parents and husband by three brothers – Michael, Ambrose, and Joseph, seven sisters – Jean (Johanna) Herback, Anna Konrath, Elizabeth Harty, Margaret Greiffendorf, Josephine Kahler, Dorothy Curtis, and Irene Peckstein.
Rose is survived by her caretaker– Barb Bettig of Bridgeman, brothers-in-law – Harold Curtis and Ray Peckstein, and several more nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM on Friday, June 8, 2018 at the St. Basil Catholic Church in South Haven. Funeral Mass will follow visitation at 11:00 AM at the church with Father Jim Morris officiating. Rose will be laid to rest next to her beloved husband James at the Lakeview Cemetery in South Haven. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Rose's memory to the St. Basil Catholic Church, 513 Monroe Blvd., South Haven, Michigan 49090.
