Robert (Bob) Riley Mason, 83, of South Haven, passed away Thursday, May 23, 2019 at his home under Hospice Care surrounded by his family. He was born March 30, 1936 to Cecil and Ruth (Thorpe) Mason in Covert, Michigan. Robert graduated from Covert High School with the Class of 1956. He honorably served his country in the United States Army as part of the Presidential Honor Guard for President Eisenhower and President Kennedy, stationed at Fort Meyer in Arlington, Virginia. He worked for Everett Piano in South Haven for 16 years. Robert then worked as a construction laborer for the Laborer’s Int. Union of North America until his retirement. He was a passionate, lifelong farmer that worked when he could on Paul Rood’s Fruit Farm in Covert.
He is preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and a grandson.
Robert is survived by his wife of 57 years, MaryAnn Mason of South Haven; children – Patricia (Jon) Zurek, Regina (Gary Moss) Hacker of Battle Creek, Debbie (Sonny) Kelly of South Haven, and Rob (Rose) Mason of South Haven; twelve grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren; brother – Dan Mason of Bangor.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM on Wednesday, May 29, 2019 at the Filbrandt Family Funeral Home in South Haven. Funeral services will follow the visitation at 6:00 PM with Deacon John Lohrstorfer officiating.
