Paul Arthur Bryant, Sr., son of Chelsea and Eva (Pompey) Bryant was born in Dowagiac, Michigan on April 26, 1936. He departed this life at the age of 83, Saturday, June 15, 2019 under the care of Caring Circle Hospice at the Graceway Nursing Home of South Haven, Michigan.
Paul attended Covert Public Schools of Covert, Michigan. He worked various positions in Chicago, Illinois as a painter and decorator in several hotels and Montgomery Ward Department Store, Chicago Housings, and South Haven Housing. Paul worked at Palisades Nuclear Plant and Covert Public Schools as lead custodian until retirement in 2004. He later was a commissioner at Covert Housing in Covert, Michigan.
Paul loved to fish and hunt with his friends. He loved children and they would call him Mr. B or Candyman. His favorite song was “Oh Happy Day”.
He is preceded in death by his parents; three brothers – Gordon, Richard, and Dale Bryant; four sisters – Rosemary Robinson, Barbara Nichols, Wanda Wares, and Carol Ivens.
Paul leaves to cherish his life and acquaintance: his wife Miriam Bryan of Covert, Michigan; five daughters – Anna Denise Bryant of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Valerie Bryant Felder of San Antonio, Texas, Geraldine Bryant of Chicago, Illinois, Evette Acklin of Elkhart, Indiana, and Meoshi Kerkhoff of Marne, Michigan; two sons – Paul A. Bryant, Jr. of Chicago, Illinois and Vincent Bryant of Covert, Michigan; two sister-in-laws – Edna Fruge’ of Covert, Michigan and Shirley Means of Banning, California; favorite niece and nephew that he would consider as a son and daughter – Dave and Marian Mitchell of Southfield, Michigan. Many grand and great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends survive.
A wake will be held Saturday, June 22, 2019 from 10:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. at Filbrandt Family Funeral in South Haven. Memorial Services will follow at 11:00 A.M. at the funeral home with Pastor Jerry Koller officiating.
