Mattie Lee Tice, 92, of Covert, passed away Monday, August 27, 2018 at the South Haven Nursing and Rehabilitation Community. She was born September 26, 1925 to James and Rosa Belle Salter in Sardis, Mississippi. Mattie was baptized in 1935 at ten years of age. Her family later moved to Chicago, Illinois in 1946. She married Peter Tice in 1960 before moving to Covert, Michigan a year later. She joined the Gospel Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church in Covert, Michigan in 1995.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter – Rose Webb, grandson – Donnell Doll, siblings – Ernestine Harris and James Salter, Jr., and daughter-in-law – Theresa Johnson.
Mattie is survived by her step-son – Erick (Ronda) Johnson of Hartford, grandchildren – Darrick Jones of Hartford, Ericka Williams of Jonesboro, Georgia, Trivenna (Arnold) Baber of Hartford, Tyrita (Thomas) Maeder of Hartford, Elkia (Darnell) Tisby of Greenwood, Indiana, Ashley (Christopher) Bolles of Crestline, Ohio, Andrea Terry of Crestline, Ohio, and James Terry of Hartford, 19 great grandchildren, 10 great-great grandchildren, nieces – Barbara Jean (Robert) Wilson of Forest Park, Illinois and Mattie Harris of Batesville, Mississippi, nephews – Richard (Boone) and Henry Harris both of Batesville, Mississippi, great niece – Ernestine (Sugg) Harris, great nephews – Steve, Anthony, Michael, and Twins Harris, and great-great nephew – Walter Harris.
Wake will be held from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM on Tuesday, September 4, 2018 at the Gospel Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church in Covert. Funeral services will follow wake at 2:00 PM with Pastor Henry Allen officiating at the church. Mattie will be laid to rest at Covert Cemetery.
