George Austin Carpenter IV, 82, of Lawrence passed away Saturday, August 4, 2018 at his home. He was born March 25, 1936, to George A. Carpenter III and Frances (Goss) Carpenter in Bangor, Michigan. George graduated from Bangor High School in 1953. He married Dorothy Lamoreaux on February 24, 1973 at the Church of Christ in Bangor. George operated Carpenter Farms since the age of 18. In 1995, he went to work for Cornerstone Ag Enterprises. He also worked as the night shift supervisor at DuWell Manufacturing. Most recently he delivered the Van Buren Reminder and Paw Paw Flashes. George loved to read about farming and was a history buff..
He is preceded in death by his parents George and Frances Carpenter III and brother – Joel Carpenter.
George is survived by his wife - Dorothy Carpenter of Lawrence, daughter - Becky (Randy) Gargus of Bangor, Grandchildren – Morgan (Jamie) Summerville, Zack, Elijah and Mikaela Gargus. Great grandchildren – Ellie Summerville and Addilyn Gargus, sisters – Joyce (Richard) Freestone of Bangor, and Carolyn (Terry) Fulk of Muskegon. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 7 from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at Filbrandt Family Funeral Home in South Haven. Funeral services will take place at 11:00 A.M on Wednesday, August 8 at the funeral home with Reverend Terry Fulk officiating. George will be laid to rest at Southard Cemetery, Bangor Township.
