Our beloved Callie Lee Starks-Mister was born on July 13, 1934 to the late Donnie and Willie Starks in Grenada Mississippi. She was loving-natured, had an enormous heart, and a fierce eye for fashion. The love she embraced for her family made her the “Heart, Soul, and Matriarch” of the Mister family. On October 4, 2018, she quietly carried her soft lit torch and closed a huge chapter of her life story in which we all are here as a family--immediate or extended, and friends from near or far to celebrate her beautiful soul.
Callie accepted Christ at an early age, and throughout her life journey, she continued to spread the love of the Lord and encouraged others who had problems and could not solve them to “Turn it over to Jesus--He’ll work out! While living in Covert Michigan, Callie fellowshipped with Trinity Baptist Church under the guidance of the late Noble Sanders--later on fellowshipping with Gospel Tabernacle Baptist Church. Her message was always “One Lord, One Faith, One Baptism!” Callie worked and retired from Covert Public Schools for which she gave her expertise in culinary. She had a PhD in cooking and helping others; furthermore, church was her number one mission, she wanted to assure that all the people she loved knew the Lord.
Callie was united in matrimony to Orlander Mister who precedes her in death, and to this union they both gained an amazing family together. Sons: David (Theresa) Starks, Co-Pastor Mac (Margie) Mister, Robert W. (Pearlie – preceded in death) Mister, Daughters: Missionary Erma Brown, Missionary Maggie (Elder William) Atkinson, Barbara (Lee – preceded in death) Lewis and Missionary Alberta Self. Jointly, they shared 3 sons: Maurice Mister, Donald Anthony Mister, and Orlander Manzell Mister, and daughter Carol Lee Mister.
Callie & Orlander Mister had a mission sent to them from God (Becoming Foster Parents) and this truly was their calling which was to save children and provide a safe haven for them. Callie would care for granddaughters: Dorothea Jones & Shemeki Woody throughout their childhood, and gracefully to this family union the Lord sent daughter Shelia Mister. Within a few months, they received daughters Michelle, Rhonda, Shenita Edwards, and one son James Edwards who precedes her in death. Continuing to spread the love of Jesus, daughters Patrice, Santasha, and Willenna Williams were added to this beautiful union. Although this task was very challenging at times, she reminded us that when you’re covered by the “Blood of Jesus” anything is possible! Callie later adopted daughter Shaquana Simpson, and son Jermaine Crockett, also caring for Bituin Arcinas, La’Quita McGowan-Wallace, Shanika Lewis and many other children until her retirement.
Callie has five brothers who precede her in death Joe, Randolph, D.J., George, and Thomas Starks, and one sister Donnie Lee Wilson. She leaves to mourn one sister Eula Neal of Athens Georgia. Callie Mister has an enormous family which are too numerous to name; however, she also leaves to mourn 83 grandchildren, 116 great-grandchildren, 120 great-great grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, other relatives and friends.
