Ardell Felton Mahone II

Obituary

Ardell Felton Mahone II peacefully departed this life on October 9, 2019 with his family by his side.  Ardell was born to Brother Ardell and Mother Idella Mahone on August 29, 1953 in South Haven, MI. 

Ardell, affectionately known as Big Jr. and Uncle Big, enlisted in the United States Army on May 14, 1971.  He served two years and received an honorable discharge in May, 1973.  He received the National Defense Service Medal and Sharpshooter Badge (Rifle M-16).  He was also a clerk typist in the service school at Fort Knox Kentucky.  On November 3, 1973, Ardell was joined in holy matrimony as husband and father to Eva and Christina respectively.  In addition to this union were born, Ardell III, April, Shawnte’ and Justin.

Ardell graduated from High School in 1975.  He was a construction worker for Schlack Construction Company in South Haven.  He also was also a general laborer and he was employed at South Haven Rubber Company.  Ardell relocated his family to Grand Rapids, Michigan where he continued to work in construction.

Uncle Big loved all of the children.  It goes without saying that he loved his grandchildren but he embraced every niece, nephew, great niece and great nephew with the same affection and love that he had for his grandchildren.  He was one of the best babysitters around.  His grandchildren loved their PawPaw and the other children loved Uncle Big unconditionally.  There was nothing that Uncle Big could do wrong!  He was also a great cook.  The children ate well when they were with him.   Big Jr. loved to entertain and to play competitive games.  He also played the bass guitar in church and played with various local bands that included his brothers as well.

Ardell is preceded in death by his daughter; Christina Denise Mahone Beard. Two grandchildren: Nastachia Anderson and Brandon Merritt. His parents: Brother Ardell and Missionary Idella Mahone.  His maternal and paternal grandparents: Mr. Ardell and Mother Estella Mahone and Elder William and Mother Jannie Bell Goodwin.

He leaves to cherish his memory his children: Ardell Felton Mahone III of Niles, MI; April Mahone of Covert, MI; Shawnte’ Mahone of Grand Rapids, MI; and Justin Mahone of Atlanta, GA. Twenty grandchildren and two great grandchildren. His sisters: Teresa Mahone Jordan & Velma Mahone Cunningham of South Haven, MI; Debra Ann Martin of Grand Rapids, MI.  His Brothers: Jerry Mahone I, and Quentis Mahone I of South Haven, MI. His former wife: Elder Eva Mahone of Covert, MI, Brother in law: Darnell Cunningham I of South Haven, MI; Sister in law, Debra Mahone of South Haven, MI, a special big brother: William (Ida) Sledge of South Haven, MI as well a host of uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Hey Daddy/Uncle Big/Brother/PawPaw – you are truly missed!

A wake will be held Friday, October 18, 2019 from 5:30 P.M. to 6:15 P.M. at Lily of the Valley Church in Covert, Michigan. Funeral services will follow at 6:15 P.M. at the church with Bishop Darryl Williams officiating. Ardell will be laid to rest at Covert Cemetery in Covert, Michigan.
