Joan Frances Chester, 67, of Grand Junction, loving wife, mother and grandmother, died Saturday, January 9th at Borgess Medical Center in Kalamazoo.
She was born June 6, 1942 in Chicago, Illinois to John F. and Mildred C. (Maicke) Rumics. Joan was a 1960 graduate of St. Joseph Catholic High School. She married Robert L. Chester on May 6, 1961 at St. John’s Catholic Church in Benton Harbor, Michigan. Joan worked as a consultant at Palisades Nuclear Power Plant until she retired in 2005. Joan enjoyed reading, music and all other art forms. Joan was a certified Master Gardener and roses were her favorite. Joan made the best potato salad in the whole world.
She is preceded in death by her parents.
She is survived by her husband – Robert L. Chester of Grand Junction, Michigan. Two daughters – Diane (Paul) Bender and Marybeth (Miguel) Sanchez. Four grandchildren – Joseph R. Schulte, Heather N. Keown, Amanda R. Ervin and Adrianna C. Sanchez. One sister – Carol Brooks and one brother – Dave Rumics also survive.
An open house will be held on Friday, January 15 from 3 – 8 at 55533 16th Ave. Grand Junction, Michigan 49056. Burial will take place at Ft.Custer National Cemetery in Augusta, Michigan.
