Shirley Mae TollensdorfApril 12, 1935 ~ October 2, 2017 (age 82)
Shirley Mae (Jacobs) Tollensdorf, 82, of South Haven, peacefully passed away Monday, October 2, 2017 at the Blodgett Hospital in Grand Rapids with her husband Donald at her side. She was born April 12, 1935 to Lester and hazel Jacobs in Pontiac, Illinois. Shirley attended Illinois State University. While in high school, Shirley worked in the box office at the Pontiac Crescent Theatre selling tickets. She married Donald Tollensdorf on January 29, 1955 in Kentland, Indiana.
Shirley was first and foremost a full-time wife and mother. She worked part-time as a librarian at the public libraries in Fairbury, Illinois and Sigourney, Iowa. Shirley was also a Girl Scout Leader and was active in the Sigourney Christian Church.
Shirley and Don later retired to Westminster, Colorado where she enjoyed the neighbors and their children and was known for holding her annual Christmas party. They then moved to South Haven, Michigan in 2012.
She is preceded in death by her parents and a brother – James Jacobs.
Shirley is survived by her husband of 62 years – Donald Tollensdorf, children – Donna (Larry) Zeppiero of South Haven, and Mark Tollensdorf of Commerce Township, Michigan, sister – Barbara Charlier of Palatine, Illinois. Shirley will also be missed by many other relatives and friends.
