Donald Philip SchoenwetherJanuary 11, 1940 ~ November 13, 2016 (age 76)
Donald Philip “Phil” Schoenwether was born in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan on January 11, 1940 to Donald Vincent Schoenwether and Marian Frances (Reese) Schoenwether. Phil died in Hospice on November 13, 2016 after a brief illness.
Growing up in South Haven, Michigan was something Phil was always proud of. His life long career in the newspaper business began in his youth when he delivered the newspaper. Phil worked in the family business, THE SOUTH HAVEN DAILY TRIBUNE and then the KALAMAZOO GAZETTE from which he retired in 2002.
He and his wife, Debbie ended up spending the rest of their time in Bradenton, FL, where they enjoyed the natural beauty of the area. Phil loved birding, fishing, golf and especially playing poker with his Mt. Vernon friends.
Phil and Debbie both enjoyed traveling and being outdoors. While many of their trips were focused on family in Michigan, they were able to take a land and cruise trip to Alaska after visiting Victoria B.C. this past summer.
Phil is survived by his wife Debbie, three sons, whom he was very proud of, Steven, Michael and Reese, daughter-in-laws, Pam and Angie; grandchildren, Brandon, Reese, Ian and Taylor; sister Paula and sister-in-law Nancy.
